JUSTICE FOR STEPHON: A FREEDOM RIDE AND RALLY
From the Justice for Stephon: A Freedom Ride and Rally event page: "On April 4th, a Freedom Ride caravan will travel from Chicago to Calumet City. We will rally and we will march and we will demand justice for Stephon Watts and his family. We will also connect his murder to the systemic criminalization of Black people, particularly Black youth with disabilities, as well as the closing of mental health services. This will also mark the anniversary of the assassination of MLK. We will #Reclaim his radical legacy as part of our historical and current struggle for liberation and transformation. Cairá designed the image to be printed on the shirts and flyers for the event. Learn more about the murder of Stephon Watts here: http://socialistworker.org/2012/02/27/why-was-stephon-watts-killed "
WE CHARGE GENOCIDE
We Charge Genocide was a grassroots, inter-generational effort to center the voices and experiences of the young people most targeted by police violence in Chicago. The initiative is entirely volunteer-run. It was made up of Chicago residents that were concerned about the epidemic of police violence that continues uninterrupted in the city. While a member of WCG, Cairá lent some efforts to a few design needs from the fight for reparations for the survivors of torture under former Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge to the Radical Education Project. Check out the history of WCG and more here.
#SAVECSU
Students, organizers, and community members are fighting against Chicago's corrupt maniacal governor Bruce Rauner who has tied up the city's budget causing a historic Black college in our city to have to close due. The university, 9501 S. King Dr., has been running on reserve funds since last July, when Illinois blew past its deadline to pass a budget for the fiscal year 2016. Six months later, with Springfield still gridlocked, administrators say they have until March until the school runs out of cash entirely. Cairá was asked to do some promotional materials for the campaign linking former CSU student and rapper Kanye West to the school's closing. Please follow the hashtag and support their fight.
